About
After service in the French navy and the American War of Independence, Théodore de Lameth was elected for the Jura to the Legislative Assembly in 1791. He sat on the right among defenders of the Constitution of 1791, reported on artillery and marine troops, and was one of seven deputies who voted against declaring war on the king of Hungary and Bohemia in April 1792. He remained after 10 August and obtained his brother Charles’s release. When an arrest order was issued, he left for Switzerland. He returned after Brumaire and briefly represented the Somme during the Hundred Days.
