A lawyer and deputy from Bordeaux, Gensonné served on the Diplomatic Committee of the Legislative Assembly and supported the declaration of war in April 1792. Elected to the Convention, he became one of the principal Girondin deputies and opposed the political influence of the Paris Commune. He was placed under arrest following the insurrection of 2 June 1793 and was guillotined with Vergniaud and other Girondin deputies on 31 October.
