About
A lawyer from Évreux and a leading Girondin deputy, Buzot opposed the concentration of political power in Paris and supported bringing Louis XVI to trial after the flight to Varennes. Following the insurrection of 2 June 1793, he escaped arrest and attempted to organise resistance to the Convention in Normandy before seeking refuge in the Gironde. After months in hiding, he and his colleague, Pétion, died by suicide near Saint-Magne in June 1794.
