Charlotte Robespierre, the younger sister of Maximilien and elder sister of Augustin, lost her mother in childhood and was educated with her sister Henriette at a religious institution in Tournai. She returned to Arras in 1781 and joined Augustin in Paris in 1792. Her later recollections describe her difficult relations with the Duplay family and an attempt to establish a separate household with Maximilien, although the chronology remains uncertain. In 1793, she travelled with Augustin and Jean-François Ricord while they were serving as representatives on mission in the south, but returned to Paris after a dispute within the party. Her relations with Augustin had broken down by 1794, and she had little contact with Maximilien during his final months. Briefly imprisoned after 9 Thermidor, she was released in August 1794. From 1803, she received periodic financial assistance authorised by Bonaparte. After her death in 1834, Albert Laponneraye published memoirs assembled from her notes and conversations.
