A page of the duc d’Orléans and a lieutenant of Orléans-cavalerie who emigrated and served in the campaign of 1792, La Bouëre took arms on 13 March 1793 and four days later had the tocsin rung at Jallais and led its peasants against the republican troops. He was among the principal officers of the Anjou army through the campaigns of that year, but refused to cross the Loire after Cholet, escorting the wounded d’Elbée to Noirmoutier instead and forming a small force in the Mauges. He rejoined La Rochejaquelein and Stofflet against the columns in January 1794 and was a lieutenant-general of the Anjou army by June, breaking with Stofflet after Marigny’s execution. He laid down his arms at La Jaunaye. His wife’s memoirs, incorporating his own notes, appeared in 1890.
