About
An actress from Pamiers, Claire Lacombe addressed the Legislative Assembly in July 1792 and took part in the assault on the Tuileries on 10 August. In 1793, she and Pauline Léon founded the Society of Revolutionary Republican Women, which campaigned against high prices and hoarding and asserted women’s right to participate in political life. Closely associated with the Enragés, Lacombe became the subject of political attacks before the Convention prohibited all women’s political societies in October 1793. Arrested in April 1794, she remained imprisoned until August 1795 and subsequently resumed acting in Nantes.
