About
Elected for Pas-de-Calais to the Convention in 1792, Philippe Le Bas served as a representative on mission to the Army of the North with Duquesnoy in August 1793. He later accompanied Saint-Just to the Army of the Rhine and the Army of the North, exercising powers over discipline, supply and command. Elected to the Committee of General Security in September 1793, he asked to share the arrest of Robespierre, Saint-Just and Couthon on 9 Thermidor. Freed by agents of the Paris Commune, he went to the Hôtel de Ville and shot himself when Convention forces entered early on 10 Thermidor.
