About
Active in Parisian section politics, Hanriot was appointed provisional commander of the Paris National Guard during the insurrection of 31 May and 2 June 1793. Under his command, armed forces and artillery surrounded the Convention and prevented deputies from leaving while the arrest of leading Girondins was demanded. On 9 Thermidor, he attempted to mobilise the National Guard in support of the Commune after the Convention ordered the arrest of Robespierre and his allies. The mobilisation failed, and Hanriot was captured and guillotined the following day.
