About
A former officer in the royal army and the Constitutional Guard, d’Autichamp joined the Vendéan uprising in 1793 and served under his relative Bonchamps in the Army of Anjou. After the defeats of that year, he continued the royalist resistance and, following Stofflet’s execution, assumed command of the remaining forces of Anjou and Haut-Poitou before reaching an agreement with Hoche in 1796. He took up arms again in 1799 and during the Hundred Days in 1815. Louis XVIII appointed him to the Chamber of Peers, which he left in 1830 after refusing to swear allegiance to Louis-Philippe. He died in 1859.
