About
A lawyer from Dieppe and a Montagnard deputy, Albitte undertook several missions to the armies and departments during the Convention. Sent to the Ain and Mont-Blanc in early 1794, he reorganised local authorities, supervised the application of measures concerning military mobilisation, émigré property and public order, and pursued dechristianising policies that included clerical renunciations and the reduction of bell towers. Accused of involvement in the insurrection of 1 Prairial Year III, he evaded arrest and was included in the amnesty of October 1795. He later became mayor of Dieppe and served as a military inspector under the Consulate and Empire. He died during the retreat from Russia in December 1812.
