A lawyer from Grenoble and a Montagnard deputy, Amar served on the Committee of General Security. On 3 October 1793, he presented its report against the Girondin deputies, which led to the prosecution of some before the Revolutionary Tribunal and the arrest of others. On 30 October, he presented another committee report opposing women’s exercise of political rights and proposed the decree that prohibited women’s political clubs and societies.
