About
A mathematician, philosophe and Convention deputy, Condorcet presented an influential plan for public education in 1792 and argued for women’s political rights and the abolition of slavery. After he criticised the Constitution of 1793, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and he went into hiding, where he completed his Sketch for a Historical Picture of the Progress of the Human Mind. He was arrested at Bourg-la-Reine and found dead in his cell in March 1794.
