Birth of Jacques Coquille, dit Dugommier

Jacques Coquille, dit Dugommier, the Guadeloupe planter and colonial officer, later the Republican general who captured Fort Saint-Elme, was born on the family plantation at Trois-Rivières, Guadeloupe on 1 August 1738, the son of Germain Coquille, a planter and royal councillor in Guadeloupe, and Claire Laurent.
