Birth of General Kellermann
François Christophe de Kellermann, a veteran general whose forces helped halt the Prussian-led invasion of France at the Battle of Valmy in 1792, was born in Strasbourg on 28 May 1735. He came from an Alsatian family of Saxon lesser nobility.
